"Trees into Fat."
Tyrone Wells will discuss an overview of his current work at Oakridge National Laboratory's Bioscience Division involving bioconversion. His work entails taking lignin, a component in woody biomass that has limited market value, and converting it into higher-value essential oils using bacteria. This work has applications in green energy as the oils have use as a fungible biodiesel. Wells discussed this conversion process and other uses for specialty oils.
