Edgy Comedy
In the 1960’s shows like Laugh-In and the Smothers Brothers pushed the envelope of the network censors with what would seem like pretty moderate stuff to us now. Later on in the 80’s and 90’s we heard the Shock Jocks on the radio push the buttons of the Conservatives. Finally, cable TV pushed comedy to the limits. In the 1960’s it was more prudish things, while in the 80’s and 90’s it was more crude, and now it is Identity and Political Correctness. We’ve gone from trashing sensibilities to humiliating feelings and identity. How do you view this transition?
